Positive Behaviour Support

What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?

PBS is a person-centered approach that creates individualised strategies for people with disabilities in response to their needs, reducing and ultimately eliminating the usage of regulated restrictive practises.

The development of strategies is guided by the combination of behavioural analyses and the collection of data.

While safeguarding the dignity and quality of life of people with disabilities who require specialised behaviour support, behaviour support places a strong emphasis on evidence-based strategies and person-centered supports that address the needs of the person with a disability and the underlying causes of behaviours of concern.
The challenging behaviour of a person mostly has a purpose and may be their only outlet for communicating an unmet need. PBS improves our understanding of the behaviours and underlying causes, enabling us to better meet people’s needs, enhance their quality of life, and reduce the likelihood that the behaviour will take place.

Every behaviour serves a purpose, which is something we’re aware of at Holistic Care Aus.

If you or someone you care about struggles with challenging behaviour, we can support them to respond in safer ways that are more appropriate.

The most effective approach for children and adults with disabilities who display concerning behaviours is positive behaviour support (PBS), which aims to reduce or eliminate challenging behaviour and restrictive practises are phased out or reduced to enhance quality of life.

We strive to support you by creating individualised plans that encourage independence and improve wellbeing. We will collaborate effectively with you and those who are supporting you to create individualised plans that take into account your specific needs and promote supportive surroundings.

If your goal is to reduce or eliminate challenging behaviours, our professional behaviour support practitioners are ready to help you every step of the way.

Holistic Care Aus Behaviour Support Services provides high-quality, evidence-based, person-centred approach to people who have approved behaviour support funding in their NDIS plans. Behaviour Support Services are available under the NDIS Support Category of Improved Relationships.

Our Behaviour Support Practitioners visit you in your home, school, workplace or other community locations to provide plans with the support and care you need.

Behaviour support funding is identified when a participant demonstrates behaviours of concern that may be a risk to themself, those around them, or negatively impact their lives. Behaviour is called ‘challenging’ because it challenges everyone who supports the person to understand why it is happening.

At Holistic Care Aus you will be supported by friendly and highly qualified behaviour support practitioners that will work with you to design a positive behaviour support plan to ensure improved well-being and quality of life. Behaviour support practitioners develop plans to assist supports in using preventative and alternative strategies to better support through challenging behaviours, while also capacity building the individual to develop and improve their emotional intelligence for increased independence and self-management of their own behaviours.
